The day after the September 11, 2001 tragedy at the World Trade Center, I made this
computerized graphic.
I wanted to portray a woman who was tearful yet defiant. It was very cathartic.

Less than a month later, I received an invitation to make a quilt in regards to this tragedy.
It was at this time I was in a low in my life having lost interest in quilting . I was recuperating from
my second bout with cancer with complications and was concentrating on trying to get
better. Quilting was the furthest thing on my mind. I did not even want to read the invitation.
Dear sweet husband Martin read it and gently urged me to participate using the graphic above. I'm
glad I did because it was a healing process mentally for me. I found out I still loved quilting. The quilt
will be exhibited at the AQS show with the other invitees in the springtime and will be out of my hands
for the next three years. The woman is still tearful and defiant. I had changed the background to make
it a more positive force.
