Projects Part II

I have included some are fun suggestions for quilters to make. Please check by again as I will be adding to this page.

Newest Project

tote

Learned a new technique called thread painting.
It is all done free motion by machine with the feed dogs down
and using a hoop. The tote is of my own design with lots of pockets
In case you're wondering about the little pink rose in the corners,
that's my logo. It tells one I am a cancer survivor.

Going to Extremes

mailbox

To identify me as a quilter, I painted the mailbox with patchwork using rustproof enamel. Each section had to be masked off and completely dry before I could add another design.

Goosey Hearts

quilt

Applique and piecing techniques, using Marilyn Doheny's pattern. Taught in a class.

Bargello Vest

My vest

When making any kind of vest, it is best to choose a pattern that has no darts. This vest was made using the Seminole Patchwork technique. First the pieces were cut, and resewn into bands. They were then recut and sewn on to a foundation base large enough to accommodate the size of the pattern. One large piece was done for the back and 2 for the front. Pin pattern back and fronts to sewn sections and cut. Connect fronts to back. I made a lining for this vest. I attached the lining to the pieced outer vest, wrong sides together and bound the edges in bias binding.

For cat lovers

cat quilt cat quilt

This is one of the projects I taught using paper piecing. After sketching out a cat on graph paper, I angled out as much as I could. I then made vertical lines that measured equidistance. A copy of this was then transferred to freezer paper using a lightbox. When working with freezer paper, remember to reverse your pattern. This is especially important if you want your design to appear as the original. The freezer paper strips were then cut and ironed on to the wrong side of the fabric making sure I had a ¼"SA added to the fabric before cutting. Make sure also, that everything works with the straight of grain. Sew in strips.

Coat of arms

banner

A simple little banner that announces your family name. The dimensions are 10 "x23" without the tassel. Your design can be made with blocks or as in this case, with applique. The tassel was made by wrapping yarn around a piece of cardboard and tying the center and about an inch or so below. The bottom was then cut through bottom center.

Chatelaine

view1` view2

A chatelaine, worn by the ladies many years ago held their keys. It was usually held at their waist. I made one for quilters to be held around their neck while sewing. It consists of a heart shaped "purse" attached to a ribbon that can hold your thimble, and any small item for sewing. At the other end of the ribbon is a hand that can be opened or closed. The hand when opened, has elastic holds to keep your scissors, pins, small pencil in place. It is closed by velcro strips.

Great gift for another quilter. Pattern available for $10.00. Includes shipping and handling.

Sampler Wall Quilt

quilt

A Wall quilt sampler from a class I taught. It included various techniques of hand applique.

Welcome Wall Quilt

quilt

A Wall quilt made by a quilting group I belong to called "Innovative Quilters". It was a round robin, each of us adding to a block that we chose to make following a theme we chose. I started with roses on a trellis. I ended it with the "Welcome" block.

Stars

quilt

A miniature quilt which was featured in McCall's Quilting Magazine.

Another Banner

quilt

This banner was made to match a sampler on my bedquilts page.

Photo Album Cover

The folding star medallion is anchored with velcro for ease of laundering the cover when necessary.

Tote bag

bag

This tote bag was made in two sizes. One is large enough to carry a full sized mat while the other was made to carry a smaller mat. Instructions for both appeared in Old Fashioned Patchwork 1989. They have small pockets on the backs of each which could contain your smaller sewing articles.

Hang Ups

spools

My husband Martin, took an old frame, backed it with pegboard and inserted little dowels. They don't hold all the thread in my collection but the ones I use the most. A simple way to recycle old frames.
