Little Quilt, Lots of LoveŠ

18x21
A miniature of "To Martin With Love", this little quilt is machine appliqued and machine quilted.

our family tree, things we like to collect,
our house, the lilacs and peonies from his garden he brought to me when we just met.
GachouŠ

A Prison of Their Own

Closeup
 54x51
An original quilt, machine appliqued and quilted.
It was made to illustrate the abuses of some children
around the world. Included is a teenager whose leg
was blown off by a mine, 2 children orphaned by war,
a young boy whose gaunt face shows starvation,
a young boy angered by sexual abuse and a little
girl who is unwanted because of her gender.
Children, as illustrated by this quilt are indeed in
a prison of their own. Hence, the title.
I usually feel uplifted by my quilts but this one
haunted me while in the making. I often found it
difficult to work on because of the tears in my own eyes.
A 1993 Crazy

48x48
This is a modern version of an antique quilt
because it is completely machine made. All the
embroidery is executed by machine. The quilt
is made of silks, satins and velvet.
Dancin At The Ritz

40x40
This quilt is a wall hanging that is made with cotton,
satins and lame. It, like all my quilts is an
original design and took Best of Show at the
Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach FL.
The theme for this show was Art Deco.
Machine applique and machine quilted.
My Tea Party
 45x54
closeup
Entered in Childhood Memories Contest 1989 NYC.
Represented the State of Florida.
It pictures me as a child reading
"Alice Through the Looking Glass". The book I
am reading actually has the
picture shown through the window.
It was embroidered and because it's so
small, I could not use a pattern.
Appliqued and quilted by hand.
LA92

41x43
Made in 1992 after the Los Angeles riots,
the quilt depicts the division of blacks and whites.
It is machine appliqued and machine quilted.
Blind Justice is quilted in metallic thread and her scales
are tipped. She is splattered with blood from the blood
that was shed that day in LA while the city burned.
Various quotes and statistics are quilted throughout
the quilt. There is a label made into a pocket on the
back of the quilt and in the pocket is a diagram of all
quotations and where to find them. I consider this quilt
as part of my historical series.
Lady With A Dove

42x48
One of my earlier quilts. A wall hanging, it is hand appliqued and quilted.
Baltimore Album

39x39
Using Elly Sienkiewicz's methods for Baltimore Album, this quilt was made in a class I taught.
Kimono

My art quilt group, Innovative Quilters,
all made kimonos as a group project. This is my kimono.
I used the flowers left over from my "The Magic Flute"
quilt and machine appliqued them on to black fabric.
It is machine quilted with the sashiko pattern.
See the closeup.

It took a first place ribbon. Hand pieced, appliqued and hand quilted.
My Very First Quilt

After watching one episode on a PBS TV show
with Georgia Bonesteel, I designed and made my first quilt.
Using poplin for the front and back,
it was machine appliqued and machine quilted.
The batting is about 8" thick.
Grandmother's Fan Quilt

This quilt is hand appliqued and hand quilted on chintz.
Bridging The Century By Bike

24x36
I belong to a wondeful group of art quilters
called Innovative Quilters, IQ for short.
All of us belong to the Palm Beach County Quilter's
Guild which is sponsoring a quilt show this
October 30, 31, 1999. IQ will have a special
exhibit at the show and for our theme, we chose
Bridging The Century. I chose Bridging The Century
By Bike. It was designed on EQ4 and I used one
of my applique patterns which is featured in their
program. The plaid is fabric that is 43 years old,
which was left over from the making of an outfit
for my oldest daughter when she was two years old.
